Poor Man’s Book
Classically speaking, the only accepted mediums of " Fine Art " included painting on canvas, architecture, sculpture and printmaking. This allowed discrimination against art forms such as textiles and bookbinding, which were often deemed as " crafts " and not worthy of respect when compared to the men-dominated definition of what is and isn't fine art. Using bookbinding techniques and paper towels as a painting medium, I seek to prove that both artist's books and paper towel are capable of rivaling the painted pieces on canvas through mixed media techniques such as collage, ink pen on acrylic, and sumi ink on paper towel to name a few.
